At Rest (2021-Hiatus)
After the passing of my grandfather, a period of introspection arose that led me to ponder more deeply about the nature of death, and the complex emotions that surround it. The concept of death is not uncommon to myself or photography. However, it was my first time profoundly experiencing the ramifications of a loved one passing and I felt the need to express those emotions through my work.
While it was not my intention to process this grief through the project, after a series of life-events that helped me come to terms with my grandfather’s passing, I decided to put this project on hold, with the possibility of returning to it in the future.
Through this series I explore various cemeteries, intending to facilitate an internal dialogue between viewer and photograph. Encouraging a contemplation of both the complexities surrounding death and how we, individually and culturally, interpret it.
